Jeff Eastman

Jeffrey S. Eastman

Jeff is a native Kansas Citian having been born and raised in Old Northeast. He graduated cum laude from Rockhurst College in 1980. From there he went on to study law at the University of Missouri at Kansas City receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1983.

After gaining experience as trial attorney with the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission, he entered the private practice of law. In 1988, he joined Michael P. Keleher to form the law partnership of Keleher and Eastman.

Representation of a commercial truck driver charged with driving while intoxicated prompted his desire to represent individuals charged with impaired driving offenses. Since that case in the early 1990s, Jeff has travelled throughout the United States to gain a better understanding of alcohol related offenses, the law, the science and the stratagies. Over the years, he has participated in seminars and programs from Boston to Kauii, Las Vegas to Orlando.

In 1995, he and ninety-nine other attorneys from across the nation founded the National College for DUI Defense. This organization is dedicated to the representation of individuals charged with alcohol related driving offenses. It offers comprehesive seminars and training sessions for advocates of this cause. Jeff is also a member of another nation wide network of DUI Defense lawyers, DUI Defenders.

Effective representation of the impaired driver demands a unique understanding of not only the law, but the science and studies behind field and chemical testing. Jeff's qualifications include his 1994 completion of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Standardized Field Sobriety Training Course. In 1999 he became only one of two lawyers in the State of Missouri to be certified as a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Field Sobriety Training Instructor. In 1996 he attended a three day course concentrating on the operation, maintenance and science behind the Intoxilyzer Model 5000. He owns his own Intoxilyzer Model 5000, a breath testing unit used by many municipalities throughout the State of Missouri. In 2003 he will attend National Patent's Datamaster Training Course in Mansfield, Ohio. Course work involved will be equivalent to that required of maintenance technicians and instructors frequently called by the state as experts at trial.

Jeff is frequently asked to lecture in this area of law. He has accepted speaking invitations extended by The Missouri Bar Association, the Missouri Probate and Associate Circuit Judges Association, the Missouri Municipal and Associate Circuit Judge's Asssociation, the Clay-Platte Municipal and Associate Circuit Judges Association, the University of Missouri at Columbia School of Law, the Missouri Public Defender's Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and the Clay County Bar Association.

Jeff is rated A-V by Martindale-Hubbell, a peer review group. It is the highest rating a lawyer may achieve. He is a member of the Missouri and Kansas Bars and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
